How do you get thick and big curls in your hair?

i have wavy hair but i want my hair to have big long curls. i don't really know how to do that with a curling iron and people say to used hot rollers but i don't know how to use them either. can anyone help me.How do you get thick and big curls in your hair?
as for curling it think twice about a curling iron, I'd use a flat iron just because its better for you hair, its quicker and easier.
